What is Eid al-Adha?
Eid al-Adha commemorates devotion and willingness to sacrifice, and is observed around the time of Hajj (the pilgrimage to Makkah). Many communities begin the day with a special Eid prayer, gather with family, and share meals and greetings.
Eid al-Adha occurs during the days of Hajj. The day before Eid is the Day of Arafah, a key day for pilgrims and a significant day of worship.
Many people emphasize charity and community support, including sharing food with relatives, neighbors, and those in need.
In many places, an animal sacrifice is performed (where permitted), and the meat is distributed among family and people in need.
